Well, tommorrow we leave for the lake for 9 days and I thought I would leave you with something funny. I tell you, there are some real dummies out there.... I also like the way some letters on the sign are capital ones and some are lower case. (And why is there a hyphen between are and country??) I am sure that grammar and spelling are not these guys greatest worry anyway. Anyway, I have spent the day getting ready to leave for the lake. Picked up clutter this morning and cleaned bathrooms. Then tackled Super Wal-Mart with two hideously tired girls. (That was a mistake!) Now I just need to get some things packed and do some odds and ends type stuff. Then I have to get myself all prettied up for date night tonight. I feel like it has been forever since I have had any adult socialization without kids somewhere in the near vicinity. I hope I can remember how to go through dinner without saying "Emmaline, eat." 50 times, or "Annelise, we don't poot at the dinner table and it is not funny." Annelise at least warns us by yelling "Fire in the hole!!" before she launches one. Hers could rival any man's and I have friends who will vouch for that. The girl has a strange natural talent. Anywhoo-we have a lot of gift cards we need to use for different restaurants, and we still haven't made a decision about where we're going. I don't care if it's Arby's- I'm just looking forward to it. My "architect friend" is almost done with our floor plans and it looks amazing so far. I am so excited about starting that house! We can't start the lakehouse until we sell our other 2 lots, but that's ok- it shouldn't take too long to do that. I'm hoping the developer will end up buying them back from us. I think he may be toying around with the idea to sell the whole subdivision to another developer and if he does, he said he would buy them back. It'll all work out either way. I'm going to take all the Benjamin Moore paint wheels with me to the lake and pick out some paint colors for the house. I get overwhelmed if I try to do everything at once, so I'll at least have some of that done. Otherwise, I plan on light reading and catching up on some devotion time and quality time with the girls. (Maybe I'll whip Brian at Mexican Train Dominoes a couple times, too....) Try not to miss me too much. Next post on August 11th....... Journal entries from a frazzled mom of 2 awesome girls and wife to a great husband. Each day brings a blessing and a challenge!

Yesterday and Today
white "Cinderella" dresses for their individual pics and then had coordinating
pink and white outfits for their together ones.
we got home.
was in the parking lot- the pics were taken from a penthouse
loft in the background that had these tall windows and
exposed brick. I can't wait to see the proofs!
little girl. The girls LOVE the water, so they had a blast.
me at the same time, so I just didn't even try.
this year. Oy, they grow up too fast.
The girls were pretty good today during the photography session. The guy taking the pics was really good with them and is very creative and talented. They had a good time and he took pics for an hour and a half. I know we are trying to save money to get ready to build 2 new houses, but I have a bad feeling we will drop a load on these pictures after we see the proofs! Oh, well- we only have really nice pics made of them every few years, so I guess it's ok. Wanna know what's not ok? Trying to do all that hair at about 8:30 this morning.... Tonight we're going to my grandmother's birthday party at my sister's house, so that should be fun and, alas, you will likely see pictures from it later..... Emmaline is napping right now and Annelise is "resting" in my bed (ie- watching TV). So, I am going to get a little cleaning done while I can. Tommorrow night is date night and I am so excited. The next 9 days after that will be serious family time at the lake, so we need this little treat of time tonight to prepare for that! Well, off to clean in peace.......

Movin' On Up
Well, the developers came to their senses, and it looks like we will be moving back to my hometown! I really am excited. The schools will only be 5 minutes away and the elementary, middle and high schools are all next to each other, so when the girls are at separate ones it won't be a big deal. The only thing I wish were different is that the developer is not allowing all hardy plank houses and that is what we were planning to build. No biggie, we are just going to do painted brick instead- but I think it would have looked more "southern" in hardy. The girls are excited and wanted to know if they could go and play on the lots and the "cool playground" today, but I told them we have way too much to do. We are getting ready to go to one of their friends houses right now to play and go to the pool. Then they have to get their hair trimmed (they have pictures tommorrow). They get their hair cut in the town we are getting ready to build, so I am going to try and swing by the lots and take some pics to put up here if I have time. Then we come home and get ready for 2 friends to come over here tonight and play. So- just a short post today, gotta go pack a cooler for lunch at the pool. Have a good one!!

Let The Games Begin
Well- we are still going back and forth with the developer about the price of the lots. All the other lots sold for about 15% less than the list price. The lots have been for sale for 7 years. We felt that 10% off was a more than fair offer. We aren't going to pay a dime over that. The developer is saying he doesn't think he is asking enough and is thinking about relisting all of the lots at higher prices. Fine. Do it. But not in the middle of someone's offer. I don't play games with people and I don't like it when people play games with me. Our agent just told the developer that the offer stands as is and that they have until Monday to accept or decline it. I realize that the area we are looking at is an upcoming hot spot because of the rising prices of land in town and the closeness of this particular city to downtown. (When I was growing up there we had one red light...now there is a bundle of traffic and new development.) Target is even getting ready to build there and you know if Targetti comes you are the stuff as far as being a cool place to live. Anyway- I am not worried. I try not to stress about things I have no control over. Our agent thinks the developer is just seeing if we will pay more, but I don't know. He may just be a total jerk and has decided that he is going to get greedy. I guess we will find out on Monday! On a good note, Emmaline has been really good for me all week-end. She has been really needy (as always) and we have played about 422 rounds of Cariboo but overall she has been perfect. She snored like a freight train last night and I think I may have slept about 4 hours. Tonight I hope to get a few more winks in. I plan to make cookies (from scratch) with her tommorrow and will need the energy!

Lots, Lots and More Lots
Well, we are definitely selling our lots that we bought earlier this year. We have really struggled with it, but when we finally made the united decision to sell, it was like a peace came over us and we feel really good about it. We have been looking at lots in my hometown (about 20 minutes from here) for a while, now- but we have not told anyone about it- not my family or friends. We just wanted to see what panned out before we said anything- especially to my family, because they have been dying for us to come back out that way. We knew we had to find some lots near the highway so that B's commute wouldn't be so bad. We wanted to be in a neighborhood, too. Well- we found some lots a little while ago and have been back out there to see them and measure them and we even managed to meet several other couples who live there and they all love it. There are only 4 occupied houses there and there are 4 spec houses for sale. We had several lots to choose from and we found 2 next to each other that we really liked. Together they added up to 1.56 acres and they cost about $60,000 less total than the 1 acre lot that we had bought earlier. We put an offer in today and the developer counter-offered and we countered again and they will let us know tommorrow if they decide to accept it. We aren't willing to go any higher because we're buying 2 lots and we know what the other lots have sold for, so we offered 10% off the asking price and we feel like that's fair. The school system is really good out there and so we would be able to take them out of private school and save a buttload of money there, too. If everything goes through, I'll post some pictures of the lots and the 9-acre natural area with the river and playground and walking trails. BTW- our lots are directly next to the natural area so we wouldn't need to build a playground, either. We also love my parents church out there- the music could use a little updating, and that will come, but their children's program is the best we've seen, handsdown. At this point, that is the top priority. Plus the Sunday School class we would be in is so much fun and the people in there are really down-to-earth. The preacher is great, too. And babysitters would also be plentiful there between my family and all the people I know out there. We'll see. If they reject our offer we will have to step back and look at everything again. I should know by tommorrow night- so I'll update then!! This week-end it's just me and Emmaline. Brian and Annelise left for the lake. Brian is going to be wiring our new dock and I figured he would get more done with Emmaline at home. She is very attached to him, lately. We went to McDonald's for supper, so for now she is a happy camper. I hope I sleep tonight with her in the bed. It's like sleeping with a donkey/helicopter. Man she is all over the bed. Well- I'll update later! Hope everyone has a great week-end!

Who's Yo Daddy?

So I'm looking at the headlines for the local newspaper as I'm going into a restaurant the other day and it reads "Clemson Picked to Take the ACC Crown". Then I look it up online and find that several other papers here in the South have also chosen to put the prediction on their front page. Now, I would LOVE Clemson to just win it all this year (or any year). I allowed myself to have a slight twinge of excitement and then a wave of mild nausea. The predictions all said Clemson was going to dominate last year, too. Then they came out and had this Jekyll and Hyde personality and you never knew which team came out to play - the good one or the one that looked like they had never played football before. It seems like every time the media and the sports centers give Clemson all this hype they end up taking it back at about mid-season. I love the Tigers no matter what. I think they are really going to show out this year and would love nothing more than to see them go all the way. But, I am a realist and I like to hope for the best and expect the worst. There is going to be a lot of experience with Harper and Spiller and Davis out there, but even though there has been a lot of hoopla around the new guys coming on, they are still guys who are stepping off of a high school football field into a whole new world. Meanwhile, I am so excited that the first game is next month that I am practically foaming at the mouth with anticipation. We get sitters for all of the big games and I already have the schedule written down in my date book- just waiting on the times to be announced. I'm as jumpy as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Woo-hoo!! Anyway- hope the media and the "experts" are correct. No matter what, I'll be cheering the Tigers on and sharing their joys and heartbreaks right there along with them. (Unlike "Mr. Paranoia" who hides behind the couch when his team isn't doing well.....) I hope Clemson does take the ACC crown, heck, I might as well ride this wave while it's here: They WILL take the ACC crown. Heh-heh. That's right- the Tigers are comin' and they're out for blood. Watch out Alabama, that tide will be Crimson, but it'll be because of all the bloodshed your boys experience after the butt-whoopin' Clemson's gonna give ya'!

Random Pics From The Weekend
and Annelise was feeling left out- so she got to sleep with her daddy and I was
kicked out to her bed.....
She'll peep over the top ever so slowly- you see ears first and then eyes and then she jumps
out at you. It is so funny. She thinks she is invisible.....
inseparable when they are together. (Apparantly even in sleep!!) I have no idea
how they managed to sleep like this. Notice Emmaline is holding Reagan's face....
to get out and run around outside of his/her tank. He/she is really cool. Never thought
I'd like a reptile in the house, but I've taken to Henry/-ietta.
Wow it has been a crazy couple of days. Aunt Libby came and got the girls (I'm really lovin' her right now) and I made grand plans to go to Kohl's and use my 30% off coupon and also to clean the house. I did go to Kohl's, but then my friend called and asked me to keep her 3 year old daughter overnight for her while she and her hubby went out of town for a meeting about a potential adoption. I'd told her I would help her with that whenever she might need me, so I happily obliged. She is too adorable and she was really good, but I forgot how hard it is to have a toddler in the house! I was scared to take a shower because I didn't want to leave her alone in my room watching TV! She was fine, but I don' t think I could do that stage again. She had a great time with us (she has always loved "Uncle Brian") and we enjoyed having her. Tonight it is just me and Brian because the girls are spending a second night with Aunt Libby(did I mention I love her?) and will likely be home tommorrow afternoon. I am having lunch with my architect friend tommorrow and also need to go to the grocery store and may have some time to do a tiny amount of cleaning after all of that. We'll see. My whole house is so full of boxes and stuff we have bought for this house we will eventually build that you can hardly see the floor in some rooms. It is driving me absolutely nuts! Brian wants to go to the lake this week-end, but I don't know. There is so much we need to do here. He wants to see the new dock, which should have been floated in yesterday, but with the hurricane rains and wind I'm not sure it made it there. I may go down there early with the girls if I get some things done. Well- gotta go decide where we can go out to eat tonight. It's date night for us!

2 New Faves and A Series of Unfortunate Events....

So I have 2 new things to add to my list of "favorite things" (yes, a lot of my list consists of things that are edible...) One is BlueBell's Nonfat Banana Split Frozen Yogurt. Yum. (Note- that is not a picture of it at the top, but it was all I could find that was similar....) Any time I see the words fat-free or nonfat, I think 'Why don't they just write Gross on the label?'. But not the case with this item. Highly recommend if you are watching the waistline. The other new favorite is not so good for the dieter, but can be eaten in small portions (good luck with that). I think the Double Stuf Cool Mint Creme Oreos have been out for a while, but I am such a big fan of the regular Double Stuf that I have never ventured out to try the others. These totally rock. I could eat a whole pack. I dipped them in milk the other night and it was like mint chocolate heaven. If you're not known for your willpower, then I would not recommend these for you. I allow myself 2 at a time and I savor them and it has gone ok so far. Of course, there have not been any crisis situations that would call for eating them all in one sitting..... Now for the unfortunate events part. So, I had my 2 days and one night of freedom all planned out and was really quite "giddy" about the peace and quiet I was to experience whilst the girls and hubby were at the lake. Well, the dock guy called and said he was postponing the dock move until Monday because of the severe thunderstorms that were being called for in Elberton (where the lakehouse is). So, no need for them to go all the way there if the dock wasn't coming. I.E.- my plans were just gone. Oh, well. No use in crying over spilled milk, eh? Of course, the weather forecast has now changed to no rain until Monday in Elberton. (Sometimes it's as if God is laughing at me.....) I am still going to partake in the bubble bath here in just a minute after I get the girls put to bed. Did I mention that hubby still had to go to the lake with his uncle to get our boat off the dock and out of the water?? Yeah, funny how that worked out. ;0) He is coming back sometime tonight. Gotta love 'em. Well, here's to a hopefully good weekend. The oreos are calling......Thursday, July 17, 2008
Lake Pics
We were shocked that she tried so many times!
had a blast together! (PS- Ryan and Tyler are "Sweet Thang" and
"Mr. Paranoia" 's minis. )
back into the lake. Nasty, I know, but they can't really get any
serious diseases from it, so we don't pick that battle.......
his side when we are at the lake.
We did have a good time and are just really glad to have the dock fully in the water again! The new dock is being "floated in" this week-end, so Brian is going to the lake to supervise and direct that. Well, the girls would not even think about letting him go without them, so he is taking them both. I just don't know what I am going to do with myself! I have a 30% off entire purchase coupon for Kohl's - so that is one of my targets while I am all alone. They will leave in the morning and come back Saturday evening. I know I have to clean the house some of that time, but it will be so much easier and faster here by myself. I just don't know what I'll do the rest of the time. I am sure I'll figure something out! My 4-year old neice is spending today and tonight with us, so I will need a break after this..... I can already see myself in a bubble bath with a magazine and some ice cream and no disturbances. (Don't be hatin'!) Oh, we did go to see the free movie this morning. It was "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium." Cute, but a bit strange. Emmaline lost interest about 3/4 of the way through. It was a little over her head. Annelise really liked it, though. Well, I guess I need to go see what all 3 girls are screaming about upstairs. I don't really want to know, but it sounds pretty urgent.........

This Line Is Temporarily Busy......
Sorry- no lake pictures today... I have been working on a surprise for Brian and had a lot to do for it today and yesterday. He recently started reading my blog, so I am not going to say anything about it just yet. He should find out in the next week or so. It is something he has complained about multiple times and something that is completely out of character for me to do. It's something I despise doing.... (Get your minds out of the gutter- nothing like that!) But I did it and it will be about a week before I can tell him..... Hee-hee. Some of my closest friends and relatives know about it and they have all laughed at me. It should be interesting to see how he reacts to it. I cannot wait for him to find out! He is going to be so surprised!! Now you're all wondering what it is, too, aren't you?? ; ) Anyway- gotta go fix the girls something to eat before VBS. 2 hours of peace and quiet tonight and each night for the rest of this week. Ahh.

The Week At Shem Palace
We're home (again). Boy it feels like we have been gone a lot lately!! We had a really rough start to our week at the lake. The water was so far down that the dock was halfway out of the water. That meant we had to pull our ski boat off the boat lift with the pontoon boat. It took forever and ended up coming off sideways and getting a huge black mark down the side. Then B and I spent 2 whole days pushing the dock out further into the lake. Remember- it is a 2-story dock with 2 boats attached to it and a 30 foot walkway.... I have bruises everywhere and am so sore!! The bright side is - I don't need to go to the gym anytime soon and I probably worked off the BlueBell Chocolate Extreme ice cream I may have eaten several nights after the girls went to bed... We tried to hook up both boats to the dock and pull it out with them, but that just resulted in breaking some expensive ropes and also mangling our ski pole on the pontoon... Then it rained really hard for a couple days and we neglected to move my Sequoia to the upper driveway. We had to go to a nearby town one day to meet with the builder for our lakehouse and we were going to go antiquing in a little tiny town on the way there. B tried to get my car out of the muck and ended up sliding halfway down to the lake. Took a couple hours (and $110.00) to find a tow truck that could come out and tow us back to the top of the driveway. Needless to say we forgot about going antiquing and just barely made it to our meeting with the builder. After those few stressful days, things got much better. We had a great meeting with the builder (lasted almost 2 hours and the girls were perfect) and decided to go forward with building the new lakehouse in October. We had dinner that night with Brian's cousin and her husband and enjoyed that very much. We went antiquing the next day in the little town (seriously, it looks like Mayberry) and had a great time. Had a couple of good days playing on the lake and swimming and then our friends" shem-lover" and his wife came down with their 2 boys and we had a total blast with them. BTW- the girls beat the guys 2 nights in a row- once at Mexican Train Dominoes and once at Spades. Handed their hineys to them on a platter. That's right. Girls rule. So, it was overall a great trip. We are going again in August for another week and we will start trying to get organized so the packing up can begin to get ready to build the new house.... So excited about that. Got a lot of thinking done on the front porch of the lake in the mornings- I'll have to talk about that later. It's late and I am tired. Tired and happy and have lots to do this week! I'll post lake pictures soon. Oh- Emmaline got up on skis this week and went a good little distance before she fell. She tried many times and we were so proud of her!! She is being rewarded with a Pancake Puffs pan (she is obsessed with infomercials) as was promised. I do have some pics of her before she fell, so those will be there, too. ; ) Summer has been a lot of fun so far- school starts next month, so we are going to savor the next few weeks......

Joy Comes In The Morning
First and foremost- we made it into the theater to see "Bee Movie" this morning!! Woo-hoo. The movie was really cute and except for the fact that the theater could have passed for the sick waiting room at Brian's office- it was actually an enjoyable experience. (Seriously, I hope none of us ends up sick at the lake this week after being around all the coughing and sneezing...) I was a woman on a mission today. Immediately after the movie, we went to the grocery store (never fun with the girls in tow, but had to be done). The girls were awful at the store, but Annelise explained to me that they just don't like to go and she doesn't know why they act so terrible but she claims they cannot control themselves. Sure, uh-huh. ; ) Got the groceries, got them put up/packed for the lake. Got the bathrooms cleaned and also vaccummed the house- which were my only 2 housecleaning goals for today. (No, I didn't really reach for the stars, there, but I truly did not even expect to even get that done.) Took the recycleables (filled up my whole Sequoia) got them separated and put into the big bins. Picked up B's meds at Target and got a few little things in the dollar section that were 75% off. While at Target, Annelise saw some training bras with little tiny sequins on the edges and had a fit. She is only 6 but has been begging for a training bra "just to play in". They were on clearance, so of course I thought about what a laugh I would get when Brian saw her wearing it and had to get it. She went home, put it on and also stuffed some baby socks in it (hilarious) and came downstairs in it without her shirt. Brian was horrified and I got a great laugh out of that. She was told she could only wear it at home (it is way too big) and she then proceeded to eat dinner with it on and still refused to put on her shirt. One day I am going to make so much fun of her when I bring that up again.... Tommorrow morning we leave for the lake for a week - we are all very excited. (Hopefully the trailer will withstand the week- especially with shem-loving "Mr. Paranoia" coming down with his family next week-end...) We are meeting with the builder we want to use for the lakehouse on Monday, so that will be interesting. Otherwise we have no plans and just look forward to some relaxing, lazy family time. Hope everyone has a great 4th! No internet or cell service there- so I'll be back in a week with a probable really long post and lots of pictures!

Yes, I'll Take One of Those Straight Jackets, Please.
Okay, so my grandfather's funeral was today. I dread funerals and burials and the like. When I die, I want to be creamated, sprinkled at the lake, and I would like a short and upbeat memorial service with a great celebratory party afterwards. Funerals are just so formal and so uptight and I think it should be more of a celebration of what that person's life meant. (That's just my opinion...) Let me tell you, all we needed was Snots the dog and maybe Aunt Bethany running around the funeral home and the visitation this morning would have been "National Lampoon's Visitation Experience". Many, many reasons why and not enough blog time to tell- but it was crazy in it's purest form. The service in the chapel was nice with a few "odd" moments. Then we drove forever to the burial site in the Veterans Cemetary and that service was beautiful and short. I have not cried this whole time but when we pulled into the cemetary, there were 3 Air Force officers standing there saluting and I felt the tears start to threaten- but I held back for a while. Then, when we all got seated, they played "Taps" and 2 of the officers began the ceremonial folding of the flag off of his coffin and presented it to my grandmother. It's safe to say that I was just a complete mess after that. If you have never seen the flag folding and presentation you wouldn't understand. But the respect that those officers showed to my grandfather (a man they have never met) was so moving and they treated the American flag as if it were the most precious thing they had ever handled. I have seen this ceremony several times coming from a family with a strong military background- and it always moves me to tears. Afterwards, the family all went to my grandmother's for lunch and it was nice to catch up with people I haven't seen in a while and also inhale some good southern cookin'. (Nothing like it when a bunch of elderly Baptist women cook up a mess of somethin'.) I then went and got the girls from the sitter and we went home. The girls had to go to bed on time because they were acting like wolverines and Brian and I spent the evening talking about what to do about our lots and what our priorities are with the house and all kinds of stuff. I think we are beginning to see a little clearer now and I am sure that the major praying has something to do with it. ; ) Tommorrow I am going to try to take the girls to see the free movie ("Bee Movie") again because they did ask to try one more time. (See- I told you I live to be crazy!! I just ask for it!!) Then we have to go run about 800 errands, go to the store, get ready for the lake trip, clean the house and take the recycleables. Sure, it will all get done- of course it will!! Didn't I tell you I have a Superwoman costume just for times like this? ; )

Who Wants Some Crazy?!
Apparantly I do! Boy what a day... The girls have been asking to go to one of those free movies that the theaters show during the Summer. They were playing the Bee Movie this week, and A and E have been wanting to see that one, so I woke them up at 9 a.m. (I know- I am sooo lucky that I have to wake them up that late...) and I got them dressed and rushed out the door to the cinema. We got there 20 minutes early and the line was going around the building already because the doors were not open. It's a big theater, and 2 movies were showing, so I didn't worry. We finally made it to the door to find out that everything was full.... All kinds of kids going to their cars crying with their frustrated moms. SO- I took them across the road to Tarjetti and bought them a freakin' movie. All said and done, the "free" movie ended up being a hundred dollar trip to Target and 2 angry little girls. (However, Target did have a great clearance on kids shoes today....) After stopping for Happy Meals, we went to my grandmother's to check on her and wait there because my mom wanted to see them and she said she would be coming by after lunch. One of the pastors came by while I was there and he made me so crazy I had to leave the room. He was sharing his heart catheterization stories and telling us about how he really wanted to ask God one day why children die. I told him that sometimes we just aren't meant to know certain things. Then I wondered "Why am I participating in this conversation??" I excused myself and went out to "check on the children" and also call my mom and warn her about the craziness at my grandmother's. She laughed and told me "Good luck with that." I waited another hour for her and called her back wanting to know where in the world she was. She said "I am not coming over there with all that! I'm 30 miles away, shopping." *You mean I could have left over an hour ago??* So, I said some quick goodbyes, put my exhausted and ill girls in the car and made the 40 minute drive home. Got home, made dinner because I had a desperately needed haircut at 5:30 and would not have time to cook after that. Dropped the girls off at B's office on my way to my appointment. Got my hair cut, came home and ate and cleaned up. B put the girls down for bed and we talked about financial "stuff". The girls tuition for private school has doubled - and this is only elementary school. We decided we also cannot build our new house and the lakehouse at the same time (just not smart...). We thought about if their school costs continue to rise and Emmaline wants to be in Ballet school and Annelise wants to take Tae Kwon Doe and how much will that cost, etc., etc....... Then we wondered if we would still want to be in the school district where our lots are if we had to end up putting them in public school (answer- not really). -Insert scream here.-
We haven't started building yet, so no real financial loss if we don't build there, but just frustration. (And the fact that we would have to sell the lots and blah blah blah...) Brian gets worried and anxious about it, but I just try to go with the flow. But I don't like not knowing what to do- and I don't like not having a plan. So, there has been a lot of praying going on here for guidance and patience. I don't know what I would do if we didn't have so much craziness. Obviously it's just how we roll.......
